What is Lymphedema?

Lymphedema is a condition characterized by lack of adequate flow within the lymphatic system. If the lymph drainage channels or lymph nodes in a part of the body are blocked or removed or damaged, lymph fluid can build up in that area and cause swelling. An accurate diagnosis and treat of lymphedema especially in the early stages is important.

Lymphedema can progress to be incurable if not managed through appropriate treatment. As this condition is relatively less researched globally, awareness of the disease and access to treatment options are limited.

Goal

Our broader goal consists of raising awareness, instituting education and providing outreach through appropriate lymphedema therapies

Through India Lymphedema Foundation, we offer you educational and medical resources to diagnose and treat lymphedema in a timely and scientific manner.

India Lymphedema Foundation will enable patients, care-givers and medical professionals to access relevant information; obtain the skill-set to provide lymphedema therapy as well as connect patients with medical professionals.

OUR VISION

To further our efforts, it is important to better understand the landscape in India around lymphedema occurrences, current trends in diagnosis and therapy options as well as existing infrastructure for training and education of the medical professionals such as physical therapists. Here are our next steps.
